1. What Mothball is

Mothball takes a web page, removes the advertising and clutter, and saves a readable copy into your own Google Drive as a Google Doc, a Markdown file or an HTML file. When you save a PDF, it can also keep the original file alongside the readable copy.

Mothball is a tool for saving pages into storage you already control. It does not host your files, and it is not a backup service — the files live in your Google Drive, under Google's terms with you.

2. Your Google account

Mothball requires a Google account and your permission to save files to your Google Drive. Your use of Google Drive is governed by your own agreement with Google, not by these terms. Google's storage limits, availability and policies apply to the files Mothball saves there, exactly as they do to any other file in your Drive.

3. What you're responsible for

You choose what to save. You are responsible for having the right to save it, for complying with copyright law, and for respecting the terms of the websites you save from.

Mothball is intended for keeping personal copies of material you can already access. It is not a way around paywalls, access controls or subscriptions — it saves what your browser can already see — and it is not intended for republishing or redistributing other people's work.

4. Mothball Pro

Mothball Pro is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription and no recurring charge. Buying it unlocks additional features, currently: saving to any folder in your Drive, saving several formats at once, your own tags, skipping the preview screen, and batch saving.

Purchases carry a 30-day refund: email within 30 days and you'll get your money back, no explanation required.

Which features belong to Pro may change as Mothball develops. Features you have already paid for will not be taken away from you.

5. Mothball is new, and changes

Mothball is early software, built and maintained by one person. Features may change, break or be removed. There is no guaranteed uptime, and no commitment that the service will continue to exist.

This is the reason Mothball saves into your own Google Drive rather than its own servers: if Mothball stops working or stops existing, the files you have already saved are unaffected. They remain ordinary files in your Drive, in formats any program can open, and you need nothing from Mothball to keep using them.

6. No warranty

Mothball is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. There is no guarantee that it will be available, error-free, or that any particular page will extract correctly.

7. Limits of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mothball is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, for lost data, or for interruptions to third-party services it depends on, including the Google Drive API. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Mothball, if anything.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules.

9. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The date at the top of this page will change when they are, and the current version is always the one posted here.
